LOVELAND MAN ARRESTED AFTER EVICTION STANDOFF
A tenant being evicted from his apartment locked the door and refused to surrender to deputies in Loveland on Thursday.
"Crisis negotiators tried to gain the man’s cooperation, but he refused to exit the apartment," the Larimer County Sheriff's Office said.
The tenant was arrested after a K9 team stormed the apartment. A SWAT team also made verbal commands, fired pepper balls, chemical irritants and flash bangs.
The man - who made "threatening statements" to deputies - was charged with burglary, trespassing, failure to vacate the premises, obstruction, and criminal mischief.
The standoff occurred near the 100-block of Juniper Place, according to Loveland police. Residents were ordered to shelter in place. The man was treated by medics.
The sheriff's office said: "The eviction process is lengthy, involves multiple notices and court hearings, and gives people ample opportunity to resolve the situation without law enforcement involvement."
