U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, a Colorado Democrat, assailed Thursday's shutdown of the national suicide hotline for LGBTQ+ youth - "a lifeline for a population that is four times more likely to consider suicide than their peers."
Bennet said the White House "continues to promote policy that targets the LGBTQ+ community under the guise of cutting costs."
"At a time when LGBTQ+ people face increasing discrimination, we must protect this community, not abandon them," Bennet said.
