The New York Post reports a congressman dialed 911 after the Stars and Stripes emblazoned with a swastika was pictured inside his Capitol Hill office on the heels of a scandal revealing texts invoking the name Hitler sent by some leaders of the Young Republican movement.
“The content of that image does not reflect the values or standards of this office, my staff, or myself, and I condemn it in the strongest terms," Congressman Dave Taylor, an Ohio Republican, said.
"Upon learning of this matter, I immediately directed a thorough investigation alongside Capitol Police, which remains ongoing,” Taylor said.
Later he told Politico: "Numerous Republican offices have confirmed that they were targeted by an unidentified group or individual who distributed American flags bearing a similar symbol, which were initially indistinguishable from an ordinary American flag to the naked eye."
A screen shot of the flag posted on X suggests otherwise.
Revelation of the vile texts, meantime, prompted sweeping dismissals in Young Republican - individuals ranging from school age to middle age. Some were booted by their employers.
Vice President J.D. Vance, seemingly missing a key on his party piano, urged restraint, saying: "They tell edgy, offensive jokes. That’s what kids do." At least one is close in age to the vice president.
