In October 2020, Colorado's East Troublesome Fire - one of the largest in U.S. history - flashed from 19,000 acres in size to a staggering 170,000 in Grand and Larimer counties in just over a day. Flames enveloped the Town of Grand Lake, taking two lives and destroying more than 500 homes and buildings. The disaster coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic. On Oct. 21, alone, the blaze roared across 100,000 acres. Authorities suspected that a hunter or a backcountry camper may have accidentally caused the monster blaze, named for the East Fork of Troublesome Creek.
The fire was declared 100% controlled on Nov. 30, 2020.
