FIRE ALERT! JAMESTOWN COULD SEE VIOLENT 100 MPH WIND GUSTS TODAY
UPDATE
The tiny community of Jamestown and central Boulder County are forecast to be assaulted by wind gusts of up to 100 mph today - setting the stage for violent wildfires, the National Weather Service warned.
Those in Ground Zero - west of Highway 93 - should "be ready to take swift action," the weather service said on social media
"We rarely issue these Particularly Dangerous Situation Red Flag Warnings regarding potential for rapid wildfire spread in and immediately adjacent to the Boulder/Jefferson County foothills," the weather service said. The Boulder County Office of Disaster Management said: "Take this seriously." High winds and the threat of fire are on tap for the Denver area, too. The City of Arvada told residents to brace for precautionary power outages. "Residents in the shutoff area should plan to be without power into the weekend," municipal officials said. South Metro Fire Rescue, which covers Arapahoe and Douglas counties, urged caution outdoors: "Dry fuels and strong winds mean any spark or small ignition could turn into a fast-moving fire." In Weld County, the Greeley Fire Department imposed a burn ban for today. A resident of Jefferson County posted on social media: "We just ended a 31 hour outage, we will get 11 hours of power tonight, then it will be off again for 12-72 hours. This is NOT normal." Colorado Springs, Pueblo and the southeastern plains are under Red Flag fire warnings today, the weather service says. [Images: National Weather Service]
