Scientific studies suggest raccoons are undergoing a domestication process just like cats and dogs did eons ago - learning to endure us, not the other way around.
They are, in many cases, adapting their behavior around people - acting tamer and less fearful - as they rummage through tasty trash cans and delicious dumpsters to get by, the Toronto Sun reports.
"Trash is the is really the kick-starter," a biologist says.
Racoons also undergoing anatomical changes as they adapt to city life, such as snouts smaller their rural cousins, studies suggest.
