DEADLY NIGHTMARE IN MOUNTAIN TOWN: SUSPECT DEAD IN EVERGREEN HIGH SHOOTING, 2 TEENS HURT; YOUNG ASSAILANT TURNED GUN ON SELF




 

UPDATE

Gunfire erupted Wednesday at Evergreen High School, fatally injuring the gunman - and critically wounding two other students.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the assailant, a pupil at the school, died in hospital after turning the weapon on himself.

He was armed with a handgun. Law enforcement didn't fire a shot. The violence erupted at about 12:20 p.m. There were about 900 students in attendance. The casualties were sent to St. Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood. 

The assailant "was walking, he wasn’t running,” a student told the Denver Post. Another told News 7: "Kids dropping their backpacks and everything. I never thought this would happen at our school."

The FBI responded to assist the Jefferson County Sheriff's office at the high school on Buffalo Park Road. Personnel from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded. Other local agencies, including West Metro Fire, were on the scene.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis said: "State Troopers are supporting local law enforcement in responding to this situation. Students should be able to attend school safely and without fear across our state and nation."

Students were evacuated to the grounds of Burgen Meadow Elementary School to meet their families. Arvada In Arvada, the police department said it was "notified of a concerning social media post involving Ralston Valley High School and began investigating. The image appears to have originated from a 2023 Twitter post."
"Active and increased security measures are already being deployed," Arvada police said.
Utah Shooting In another school shooting, conservative pundit Charlie Kirk, 31, was killed Wednesday by a sniper during a public event on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, Salt Lake City's Deseret News reported.

Kirk was a founder of Turning Point USA, one of the major conservative organizations for high school and college students.

President Trump said on social media: "No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie."

Washington Incident

In Washington state, police arrested a youth, age 13, who had “everything ready to go to commit a mass shooting” – including a stash of 20 guns at his home, CNN reported.
