HIT & RUN SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER HURTING DEPUTY IN WILD MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY CHASE

Authorities arrested a suspected drunken, hit-and-run driver who struck a parked car at the Safeway supermarket in Idaho Springs and then injured a deputy sheriff during a wild roadway chase Saturday.

At one point, law enforcement "stopped the vehicle and attempted to get the suspect to exit," the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office said. "Instead, the suspect put his vehicle in reverse, knocking over the officer as he drove backward to try to flee."
The deputy's injuries were considered non-life threatening. Then on I-70 a deputy attempted to stop the suspect, but he veered and slammed the patrol car into a center barrier. The suspect, who was known to police, was tracked down. Aaron Family, 43, faces charges of assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, felony menacing, felony vehicular eluding, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, DUI and hit and run.
