Firefighters battled a raging house fire and an adjacent brush fire Wednesday night in Confer as howling winds swept the foothills, Front Range and eastern plains.
No one was injured in the 21000-block of Pleasant Park Road, the Elk Creek Fire Department said.
In rural Yuma County, which borders Kansas, brush fires forced brief evacuations. Three emergency shelters opened, including Yuma High School. Fires smoldered into Thursday, the sheriff's office said.
The National Weather Service issued another batch of Red Flag fire warnings for Thursday.
