TOP LAWMAN DIES ON DUTY IN WATKINS

Karl Smalley, 67, a district commander with the Adams County Sheriff's Office, died Monday near Box Elder Creek in Watkins, officials said. He suffered an apparent medical emergency and wasn't breathing. Smalley was on duty. His passing is considered a line-of-duty death.
