Police shot and killed a gunman Thursday night at a business on South Havana Street in Aurora, officials said.
The assailant was believed to be just 17, police said.
They provided this account:
"About 7:30 p.m., officers responded to an Aurora911 call about a male armed with a firearm who threatened to open fire inside a business in the 200 block of South Havana Street. The 911 caller, who is also the suspect in the incident, also threatened to shoot at police officers. "Three officers arrived at the scene and located the suspect, who ignored instructions to show his hands. One of the officers used a 40mm less lethal launcher that fires foam projectiles, which had no effect on the suspect. The suspect ran toward police, at which point one officer discharged their firearm striking the suspect." No officers were injured. Denver 7 said the incident occurred at a Conoco service station.
