Police arrested a parolee as a suspect in the murder of Elizabeth Johnson, 83, slain during a burglary at her home on South Kendal Street in Lakewood.
Arthur Joseph Maestas IV, 41, face charges of first-degree murder, first degree-arson, first-degree burglary as well as a parole violation in the Dec 6 crime, police said. He was arrested Wednesday. "A family member went to the home to check on their elderly mother and found her dead," police said. "It quickly became apparent that burglary had happened as a window had been broken for entry and the home was ransacked. There was also evidence that a fire had been started." Maestas was on parole for crimes committed in Jefferson and Lincoln counties, according to Colorado Department of Corrections records. He was due to be discharged from parole in November 2029.
