LIFE SENTENCE FOR MAN CONVICTED IN MACHETE MURDER OF LOVER

A man convicted of killing his lover with a machete and then fleeing the U.S. has been sentenced to life in prison without parole, Adams County prosectors said Wednesday.

Adrian Carracedo-Vega, 37, stabbed Sachely Diaz, 20, at a Federal Heights apartment complex on Dec. 30, 2023. He was arrested last year in Mexico.

Diaz
was found crawling near trash dumpsters, covered in blood, whimpering “I’m dying, I’m dying”

Police recovered bloody clothing from the murderer's home and a bloody 27-inch machete from his auto.
An autopsy determined Diaz suffered two stab wounds to her chest and rib cage and ligature marks around her neck.

Carracedo-Vega and Diaz are of Cuban descent, according to media reports. They had been "involved in a long-term relationship," prosecutors said.
