COLORADO TO REVIEW MEGAN TRUSSELL INVESTIGATION

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the controversial case of University of Colorado student Megan Trussell, whose death was ruled a suicide by drug overdose

Local authorities have been assailed for their handling of the matter.

Trussell, 18, an Indigenous person, was last seen leaving campus Feb. 9, 2025, and reported missing three days later. Her body was found Feb. 15, 2025, at the 40-mile marker of Boulder Canyon Drive.

State law
requires an independent review for cases involving Indigenous people whose deaths are ruled as suicide or overdose under suspicious circumstances. The investigation isn't being fully reopened.

Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson said: "We recognize the concerns this case has raised in our community and believe transparency is essential to public trust. We welcome this independent review and stand by the thoroughness and outcome of our investigation.” University of Colorado police said they are "supportive of CBI’s review and will fully cooperate with and assist the agency in fulfilling its statutory duties."
