HONORING GOOD SAMARITAN DEPUTY 'BUCK DAVIS' OF EAGLE COUNTY

The name of a Good Samaritan lawman - Deputy Charles "Buck" Davis of Eagle County - is being added to the Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial in Golden. October 1972 was, in some ways, a simpler time. In a gesture of kindness, Davis bought a meal at a cafe for a fugitive who had been in hiding in the Basalt area. "Shortly after, the suspect fled on foot, and Deputy Davis continued searching for several hours before taking him back into custody," the sheriff's office said. Davis went into cardiac arrest on the drive to the Pitkin County jail and died at Aspen Hospital on Oct. 7, 1972. His passing will now be formally recognized as a line of duty death at a ceremony on May 1. [Photo: Eagle County Sheriff's Office]
