The "Jane Doe" in the Apollo shoes was dead between one and three years when two hikers found her skeletal remains on a trail in unincorporated Jefferson County near Bailey on Aug. 27, 1972.
Deputies recovered a set of thin, round, gold pierced earrings.
Her identity has never been established, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. There was no obvious evidence of foul play, the county coroner said.
Jane Doe - discovered on Forest Road 554, about one mile east of the border between Park County and Jefferson County - was aged between 17 and 23, stood about 5-foot-3 with dark brown hair.
In addition to the black Apollos with a single strap and one-inch heel, deputies recovered four small pearl buttons and a large brass button, according to CBI.
Newspaper reports said her shoes were size 6.
Her death was in 1969, 1970 or 1971.
