The Denver Zoo has awarded names to its desert big horn rams representing "the rugged landscapes they call home in the wild." "Dune, the largest and oldest at eight years old was named for the towering mounds of sand that shape the desert," the zoo says.
"Mojave, or Mo, is six and his name is a nod to the Mojave Desert and Mojave National Preserve, where desert bighorn sheep roam.
"Last but not least, four-year-old Zion's name honors Zion National Park, part of their native range and a site of successful reintroduction after the species was extirpated there in the 1960s."
