Beware of rogue QR code decals on parking meters.
The scamming stickers direct motorists to website pirates who abscond with credit card and personal data, the Denver Police Department warns.
"Scammers have placed fraudulent QR codes on signs and meters, especially in Cherry Creek and along Broadway and Lincoln between 10th and Alameda" and "more may pop up," police said. City workers have been on peal patrol removing the deceptive decals.
There's an exception, though in Lower Highlands where official QR codes appear on overhead signs "and direct you to the Pay by Phone app — never a website" police said.
If you've been scammed call 311, file a police report online or in person. If you spot suspicious QR codes, report them to 311 or police.
