NATIONAL NEWS: 'TOO LARGE' FOR INSANE ASYLUM

Declaring he's Superman, a gubernatorial candidate was stopped recently wearing only undershorts and shoes, according to media reports.

Politically, the freak incident, involving William “Mullins” McLeod, running for governor of South Carolina, recalls a comment by a prominent resident of the state when it left the union - an act that ignited the Civil War.

“South Carolina is too small for a republic, but too large for an insane asylum,” James Louis Petigru said.

When detained, police said the disorderly politician's eyes were “extremely bloodshot and highly dilated,” signs of drug abuse. Police also released video of the encounter. McLeod called his arrest “unlawful,” according to reports.
