A man pointing a semi-automatic handgun at passing cars was shot Monday in a confrontation with Denver officers, Police Chief Ron Thomas said.
Police fired two volleys of bullets at the man, who appeared to be homeless, Thomas said at a news briefing.
The confrontation occurred in the vicinity of Alameda Avenue and Lipan Street, closing Alameda Avenue in both directions.
The suspect was transported to Denver Health Medical Center for surgery, Thomas said. The incident was reported at about 8:30 a.m.
