Two small aircraft collided Sunday while attempting to land at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport - killing one person and injuring three others, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office said.
The tragedy involving a Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau - each carrying two people - occurred at about 10:40 a.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said. There is no control tower at the airfield, about 80 miles northeast of Denver
The Cessna "was struck mid-air," the sheriff's office said. "Both aircraft crashed and caught fire."
A person aboard Extra Flugzeugbau was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to hospital, the sheriff's office said. The two people aboard the Cessna were treated at the scene.
