A combined total of more than $2.5 million has been spent by an array of outside groups seeking to influence school board races in some of Colorado’s largest public school districts, Colorado Newsline reports.
More than half of that has been spent on races for the Denver Public Schools board, where a deep-pocketed reform group hopes to wrest control away from candidates backed by teachers' unions.
Colorado holds coordinated off-year elections to choose candidates for certain school boards, municipal offices and other local races, often alongside one or more statewide ballot issues.
