Police on patrol in Commerce City went beyond the call on duty Wednesday night - buying groceries for a family going hungry.
A mother - unable to afford for food - was trying to hand over her child to a relative for safekeeping.
"The officers who responded to the call pooled their own money and took her grocery shopping to ensure she and her son will have enough to eat until the family can secure some social services," police said.
They added: "Not every call we handle is a police matter; sometimes it’s just a human matter, and we are proud to employ some incredibly good humans."
