The Fremont County Sheriff's Office fired a deputy Thursday accused of excessive force at the county jail, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said.
Luis Mora-Huerta, 62, has been charged with first-degree official misconduct, official oppression and harassment. Deputies who witnessed the Oct. 14 incident reported it to supervisors. The sheriff's office asked CBI to join the investigation.
According to an affidavit, the jailer is accused of placing his right hand on the front of an inmate's neck in a "c-clamp" position. The inmate, aged 57, was against a wall.
When the inmate complained, "He's choking me," Mora-Huerta allegedly replied, "Yes I am," the affidavit said. Chokeholds are prohibited.
