Construction at Dinosaur National Monument uncovered a surprise jackpot beneath a parking lot - the first huge fossil discovery at the site in more than century.
The national monument is situated along the border of far northwest Colorado and Utah.
"Asphalt removal exposed a portion of the dinosaur-bearing sandstone," the National Park Service said. "The fossils belong to a large, long-necked dinosaur, most likely Diplodocus, which is common in this bonebed," the park service said.
Diplodocus - which stood as tall as 85 feet - were common in North America.
The parking lot - near the Quarry Exhibition Hall, which is located on the Utah-side of the park in Jensen - hasn't been dig for fossils since the original excavations were completed in 1924.
