TURKISH MILITARY VET IS COLORADO COP

A veteran of the Turkish military has been promoted to a top job in the Montezuma County Sheriff's Office. Patrol Sergeant Hakan Aybar joined the force in 2019 as a patrol deputy and advanced though the ranks, also serving as a detective. In the Turkish military, Aybar "gained valuable experience in leadership, discipline, teamwork, and operational decision-making," the sheriff's office said. "That background helped shape his work ethic and prepared him for a career in law enforcement," the sheriff's office said. "He believes in fairness, accountability, and treating people with respect." As a patrol sergeant, Aybar leads a crew of two or three deputies and responds to calls. Montezuma County is in far southwestern Colorado, bordering Utah, New Mexico and a corner of Arizona. The county seat is at Cortez. [Photo: Montezuma County Sheriff's Office]
