The Denver Board of Water Commissioners on Wednesday imposed strict drought rules, effective immediately, amid the thinnest snowpack in 40 years.
As of Monday, "reservoir storage stood at 80% full," officials said. "Average for this time of year is 85% full."
Officials are seeking a 20% reduction in water consumption.
"There is no need to turn on automatic systems until at least mid- to late-May," officials said. "It is not necessary to water grass two days a week in April and the beginning of May, which will help save water."
