Denver Water is bracing for a severe drought amid a record-low mountain snowpack and "tightening its financial belt," officials said Wednesday.
The snowpack accounts for 90% of its water supply.
"If the situation doesn’t improve dramatically in the next few months, it is likely that customers will be asked to save more water to preserve water levels during drought conditions," the utility said.
Denver Water depends solely on revenue from customers and is deferring or delaying equipment purchases, maintenance projects and contracted services and has slowed the pace of hiring.
