UPDATE
An afternoon explosion rocked a hotel Sunday in Arapahoe County, the sheriff's office said.
The first two deputies on the scene suffered minor smoke inhalation after forcing their way into the second-floor room where the blast occurred at Extended Stay America at 9604 East Easter Avenue in Englewood. The damaged room was unoccupied. The windows were blown out. "Additional deputies assisted firefighters in evacuating 93 people from the hotel," officials said. "A dog and a cat were also safely rescued."
The cause of the 2:30 p.m. explosion was under investigation and guests were permitted to return to their rooms. A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said Monday: "No crime occurred." South Metro Fire sent a full response, including District Chief 1, Battalion 2, Battalion 3, Engine 14, Engine 31, Engine 33, Engine 44, Tower 32, Tower 35, Ladder 34, Medic 31 and Medic 32.
