Citing security, the Limon Correctional Facility cancelled in-person and video visits and blocked inmate access to phones through the weekend.
Inmate tablets were placed offline.
"This suspension is due to unexpected security requirements necessary to ensure the safety of our staff and those in our care," the Colorado Department of Corrections said.
"We recognize how vital these connections are for families and sincerely apologize for the short notice and the disruption to your plans," officials said. However, "individuals with approved special visits will still be accommodated."
