HUMAN SKULL PACKED IN GROCERY BAG

A sheriff and a deputy were indicted for bungling a death investigation, including accusations of collecting a human skull in a grocery bag and leaving other body parts behind.

Three other members of the Costilla County Sheriff's Office were indicted in a separate incident involving use of a Taser on an unarmed man suffering a psychiatric crisis.

12th Judicial District Attorney Anne Kelly said: "I cannot and will not ignore violations of the trust a community should have in their police.”

The rural county, population about 3,500, is located along the border with New Mexico.
