Art thieves nabbed a popular neighborhood sculpture depicting a person in repose in the Congress Park neighborhood of Denver.
A social media post said: "All iron. Taken overnight March 26/27. Moved from corner to alley next to our house along 12th. Then apparently hauled away from alley after 7:30 a.m., based on what we can piece together. "Six feet in length. 300 pounds. Would take two or three people to move and lift over double-stone wall," the post said. Police investigated the theft at East 12th Avenue and Milwaukee Street - and scrap yards were notified by the family. The sculpture was created by a noted Detroit artist and had graced the corner for about a decade. One part - a metal rib with a bolt - was left behind. Earlier in the month, a thief pried metal statues of St. Rita and St. Paul from their bases outside Holy Ghost church at 1900 California Street in Denver. The church statues were recovered in need of repair.
