GUNMAN DIES IN SHOOTOUT WITH DENVER POLICE

A gunman died in an exchange of bullets with Denver police, Chief Ron Thomas said.

Officers confronted the man after responding to a report of a possible "carjacking situation" - and he fired a round at police, Thomas said in an online briefing.

They returned fire, including one officer armed with a rifle who fired a number of rounds, Thomas said.

None of the officers were hurt. The suspect was pronounced dead at hospital.

The incident occurred early Saturday at an apartment complex at 4363 South Quebec Street, Thomas said. [Photo: Denver Police]
