Jimmy Cazares, 33, was sentenced to almost a century in state prison for firing 59 bullets into Wyler’s Pub and Brew in Greeley - critically wounding a woman working at the establishment, prosecutors said.
Another woman was hurt dodging the bullets. She was in the direct line of fire.
“My life changed forever that night,” a victim told Wednesday’s sentencing hearing. “I never could have imagined I was being shot at. I firmly believe I died for a brief moment.”
Bartenders had removed Cazares from the bar in the 2300-block of 27th Street for fighting. He returned about 40 minutes later and opened fire. The gunshot victim was struck several times, including in her neck, on Nov. 30, 2024. Police determined the gun's serial number had been removed.
Cazares, who was convicted at a jury trial in February, was sentenced to a total of 96 years. He faced a total of 134 years. He was also convicted of drug charges.
Weld County Deputy District Attorney Lacy Wells said: “These victims of this horrific and senseless crime will live with the mental, emotional and physical damage the rest of their lives.”
