TRAGEDY ON I-76 IN ADAMS COUNTY

A garbage truck struck and killed a pedestrian on a major highway in Adams County early Friday, the state patrol said. 

"Preliminary investigation information shows that a Peterbilt trash truck was westbound on Interstate 76 when it struck a pedestrian walking on the Interstate," the patrol said.

The accident occurred south of Thornton and shut down westbound lanes during morning rush hour. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said.
