Police shot a gunman who wounded a person on the popular 16th Street pedestrian mall in downtown Denver.
Two officers opened fire and hit the suspect "numerous" times with bullets after he fled into an apartment building vestibule, police Chief Ron Thomas said.
He had refused to drop his gun.
The victim was in stable condition. Both were transported to hospital. The incident occurred in the vicinity of 16th between California and Stout streets early Sunday.
