A giant tower at a petroleum refinery in Commerce City belched fire and smoke after a power outage on Monday.
Police responded to the scene for traffic control. No injuries were reported.
"No action by the public is required," Suncor Energy Inc. said. Such "venting" is common after a mechanical shutdown. The facility at 5801 Brighton Boulevard, near the Denver border, is the largest refinery in the Rocky Mountain region and processes 98,000 barrels a day.
"Flaring, steam venting, and fire training are part of normal, day-to-day operations as well as maintenance activities," according to Suncor's website.
