DUPLEX FIRE KILLS RESIDENT, INJURES 2 FIREFIGHTERS IN JEFFCO

A fire that apparently started in the garage of a duplex killed a resident early Sunday, West Metro Fire said. Two firefighters were injured in the blaze on Vivian Street near 14th Avenue in Jefferson County.

"A neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the garage," officials said. "When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames, with fire extending into the living area, and immediately began search and rescue operations.
"Three people were inside the home at the time. Two were able to escape, but one person who was asleep upstairs was unable to get out," officials said "Firefighters located the person and brought them out of the home. The person did not survive. "Two firefighters involved in the rescue suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment." [Photo: West Metro Fire]
