A bear - oblivious to its cousin Smokey's safety advice - broke into a home in Mount Crested Butte early Wednesday, unknowingly flipped on a stove and started a fire.
The occupants were startled awake. "Law enforcement safely addressed the bear and the fire (was) contained to the kitchen," the Crested Butte Fire Protection District said.
No injuries were reported - and the bear meant no harm, according to officials in the mountain town, population 900, in Gunnison County.
Smokey Bear, of course, is the mascot of the U.S. Forest Service, and promotes fire safety.
