NINETY FIREFIGHTERS RACE TO LIGHTNING BLAZE IN DOUGLAS COUNTY

UPDATE

A raging fire caused by a lightning strike gutted a home Tuesday night in unincorporated Douglas County.

Three occupants, a dog and a cat escaped the flames at 7724 Aeroshaft Drive, South Metro Fire said. Another cat was missing.

Ninety firefighters responded to the alarm.

The nearest fire hydrant was almost two miles away and emergency water tenders from South Metro, Aurora, Buckley Space Force Base and Franktown shuttled water to portable reservoirs set up at the fire scene. "The home’s unconventional structural layout and roof design added complexity to firefighting operations as flames spread throughout the home, including through the ceiling, ventilation system and attic," officials said. "A portion of the roof also collapsed."
