FIREFIGHTER FALLS THROUGH FLOOR AT 2-ALARM BLAZE IN AURORA

A floor collapsed at a raging two-alarm house fire in Aurora, briefly trapping a firefighter.

The blaze broke out early Friday in the 16000-block of East Ithaca Place.

"Shortly after crews entered the home, a mayday was declared when a portion of the floor collapsed, causing a firefighter to fall with the floor," Aurora Fire said. "The firefighter was quickly removed from the structure and evaluated for injuries" and transported to hospital as a precaution, officials said. The blaze was declared under control after 40 minutes. The home wasn't occupied.
In a separate incident Friday, firefighters extinguished a fire in a room on the first floor of a Motel 6 in the 1000-block of South Abilene Street. Crews rescued a dog in an adjacent hotel room. One person suffered minor injuries.
