GUNMAN NABBED IN NEBRASKA SLAPPED WITH 76-YEAR SENTENCE FOR DENVER MURDER

Deadly gunman Augustine Vega was sentenced to 76 years in prison for second-degree murder, aggravated robbery and burglary, Denver District Attorney John Walsh.

Vega, 37, of Colorado Springs, shot David Maffet on South Vine Street on March 8, 2025, after robbing a convenience store on South Colorado Boulevard. The men were reported to be acquainted. Vega, accompanied by a female passenger, was arrested in Dawson County, Nebraska, after a high-speed chase and crash into a ditch. The two were found to be unresponsive and were treated for drug overdoses. His passenger died. Walsh applauded "the bravery of the Nebraska State Patrol troopers who brought Vega into custody without incident.” Maffet was 35. Vega was convicted in March. [Photo: Dawson County Sheriff]
