DEPUTIES TEST 911 EYE IN SKY

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office commenced trials Tuesday of emergency drones that respond on 911 calls to provide an eye in the sky.

Test flights will be conducted over the next four weeks in Centennial. Drones "can capture video of a crime in progress, enabling us to better understand the nature of the emergency and how to approach it safely" and "often arrive on scene in half the time of a patrol unit and provide crucial information," the sheriff's office said. The "Drones as First Responders" program is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration, which controls airspace. [Photo: Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office]
