Denver 7 reports Joanna Rosa-Saenz of Denver organized a pop-up food bank in her backyard on Halloween as the federal government shutdown cripples the food stamp program.
"We live in America. We shouldn't be hungry, we shouldn't be hungry," Rosa-Saenz told Denver 7. "And I don't want anyone on my block to be hungry."
Colorado is providing stopgap aid as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program stalls with state legislature's Joint Budget Committee approving $10 million in emergency funds for food banks and others.
"I remember having to stand in line for a food box, things like that," Rosa-Saenz told Denver 7.
