ARSON? FEDS JOIN LEETSDALE INFERNO PROBE; NO SIGN OF BODIES IN RUBBLE

UPDATE

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Tuesday it is sending its National Response Team to Denver to investigate Friday's five-alarm inferno at an apartment building under construction on Leetsdale Drive - one of the worst blazes in the city's history.

"We're looking a everything now" from arson to fireworks to an accident, Robert Murphy, operations chief of the Denver Fire Department, told a news conference.

Cadaver dogs found no evidence of victims in the pit of rubble, Murphy said.

Firefighters poured 18 million gallons of water on the charred, smoldering site between Friday night and Monday, the chief said.

At the height of the blaze 16 aerial ladders were towering over the blazing scene and flooding the flames with cascades of water. South Metro Fire and Aurora Fire sent reinforcements.

If you have information to share, call the fire department tip line at (720) 672-5101.
