SMASH AURORA CRIME RING: POLICE ARREST 6, SEIZE STOLEN AUTOS, PARTS

Police arrested six suspects, recovered four stolen vehicles and seized stolen parts in a lightning raid in Aurora, officials said Thursday.

Acting on a search warrant, officers discovered horses, chickens and goats that appeared to be mistreated on the property near Chambers Road. Animal control was alerted.

Police issued this statement on Wednesday's raid:

"This search warrant was the result of months of relentless investigative work that uncovered a sophisticated motor vehicle theft operation. These were not quick grab and go crimes. These suspects were reprogramming vehicles in a matter of seconds. "Flock license plate readers played a critical role in this case and were an invaluable resource. "After stealing vehicles, the suspects would change plates within 30 minutes to avoid detection. Using Flock, investigators were still able to track the vehicles."
