BOMB SQUAD MEMBERS INJURED IN BLAST IN PUEBLO

Two members of the Pueblo Bomb Squad suffered serious burns Thursday when an explosive they were disarming detonated.

The blast occurred at the police bomb range. The explosive was seized in a criminal investigation.

"This incident resulted in first- and second-degree burns to one officer and first-, second- and third-degree burns to another," police said. "Both officers were immediately transported for medical care."
"The officer with third-degree burns was transported to a Denver burn unit for treatment and remains hospitalized," police said. "The other officer was treated and released." The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agency is assisting police.
