SUSPECT ACCUSED OF DRAGGING COPS WITH AUTO IN THORNTON

Wesley Norton, 27, has been arrested on charges of dragging two Thornton police with his auto - and biting one of them, officials said Wednesday. The bizarre incident occurred at a gas station near West 88th Avenue and Huron Street on Feb. 3 and Norton - whose auto bore no license plates - was tracked down and arrested two days later.

"When the suspect provided false identification and was asked to exit the vehicle, he instead started the car and ignored officers’ commands to stop," officials said. "As he drove away, two police officers were dragged several yards." "One officer suffered minor injuries, while the other sustained significant injuries and is believed to have been run over by the vehicle and bitten by the suspect," officials said. Thornton Police Chief Jim Baird said: "This incident underscores the unpredictable and dangerous situations our officers face every day." [Photo: Thornton Police Department]
