A troublemaking tortoise tunneled through a natural gas line, causing a leak south of Fruita on the Western Slope.
"We’re not sure if it was a bad day, a personal grudge against utilities, or just really poor decision-making - but the line lost that fight," Lower Valley Fire District said Thursday.
"Thankfully, our crew worked with Xcel Energy to clamp the leak and secure the area," officials said. "The tortoise was safely relocated and released."
