FLAMING AMMO POPS, LEVELS STORAGE SHED
Fire destroyed a building packed with ammunition in Whitewater this week, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office said.
No one was hurt as emergency crews maintained a safe perimeter.
A deputy "could hear the ammunition popping" at a distance, the sheriff's office said.
The Mesa County Fire Authority, Palisade Fire Department, Grand Junction Fire Department and the Orchard Mesa Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze. The state patrol responded, too.
"We are glad all first responders walked away safely," the sheriff's office said.
